Switzerland amends road charging scheme

Switzerland’s federal council has made several changes to the country’s road charging scheme for heavy vehicles (HVF). The amendments, which go into force on 1 May 2018, will incorporate the regulations governing the introduction of the European electronic toll service (EETS) in the HVF.

This will simplify the collection of toll charges from foreign vehicles. Foreign road hauliers will be allowed to hire EETS collection service providers, who, in turn will provide the requisite on-board units and pass on the toll charges to the federal customs administration (FCA). (ben)
